Can you drive? If so and you've got a spare 2 mins i'd seriously appreciate you taking the time to fill in the following survey:

The results will be included as part of my thesis i'm currently writing on the use of safety (speed) cameras.

    Cheers,

    Survey is slightly biased.

I see where you are coming from and have answered survey as honestly as I can given the questions. I have a real concern with final question however as to disagree suggests that 4 deaths is acceptable. NO death is acceptable but there are many more contributary factors. It worries me more that there are so many unlicenced, uninsured and untaxed drivers and vehicles on the road. If the press statistics are correct this is the group most likely to have an accident, cause a death and get away with it!! Speed cameras don't even affect them as they are not registered.

    Hi Dave,

Have completed the survey, but I do think it needs to be a bit more in-depth.
For example, I think the 'wrongness' of speeding depends on circumstances eg doing 90 on a deserted night-time motorway is nowhere near as bad as screaming round a housing estate at 50, it's about the risk you are putting others at.
I'd quite happily have higher or no limits on motorways, especially say between 8pm and 6am but also happily be restricted further to 20 in all housing areas.
Also, it's not whether there are too many or too few police, but what they are looking for, I'd rather they left alone people driving well at 80 or 90 on the motorway and instead concentrated on speeding round built up areas; mobile phone users; drink-driving; driving dangerously (eg overtaking when they shouldn't; not in the correct lane; tail-gating; racing, etc); and, most importantly, stopping the unlicensed, uninsured, untaxed, un-MOT'd louts who are a danger to the rest of us.

    Hi,

I tired to answer your survey as honestly as I could. I do belive that speeding is dangerous but I do not belive that cameras are the answer. There are many other things that the police could be doing. Trained and competent traffic officers are and have been proven to be very effective as the County Durham force have ably demonstrated. Having been subjected to their tender mercies I can attest to what an enlightened, informative and educational experience it was to be lectured by one of their officers, as opposed to their ill-informed arrogant and ill-trainedcolleagues in other areas.

Research shows that less than 3% of accidents are due to speeding, if this is true then more needs to be done to look at the other factors, such as use of Mbl's, drugs, drink, cheap tyres, state of road surface, spilt diesel on corners and roundabouts, lack of concentration etc.

Best of luck with the thesis.
    Taz.
