My 2001 Toyota Avensis 1.6 VVTi started using a lot more oil a few months ago. I have heard this is a problem with this engine built at that time but I don't know where the oil is going. No blue smoke and no drips. Is it a known problem and can it be dealt with at modest expense?

From what info I can find this is a known problem with the 1.6 and 1.8 vvt-I engines.Your best bet is to get in contact with your toyota dealer. I believe in some cases they extended the warranty to 7 years/100K miles if you have full dealer service history. See this thread http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/i...howtopic=59148
