HI,
I am buying a vehicle that is upcountry from me. It is sorn and must be towed (the engine needs rebuilding), can i legally tow on a motorway?! must it be a tow rope or a bar?! can i use trade plates as the vehicle is sorn?! can i tow it at all?! :confused:
Any legal advice is sooo needed!!!

Can You tow it... NO! The reason why is because you can only tow a vehicle which has broken-down... NOT because it's dismantled or previously broken down. Regarding trade plates:- they are only a transferrable tax disc used by traders and do not cover unroadworthy vehicles.
Hint: My father is an ex high-ranking police officer, and his saying with regards to trade plates... "Red-on-white....STOP on sight".
Your safest bet is to have the vehicle transported (NOT recovered as this requires a tow truck with a special O licence) to your destination with all 4 wheels suspended. No breakdown service will do this for you as they do not have an O license. And they will not tow an untaxed vehicle for the same reason. please see current thread "No recovery due to no tax".

AS Lonestranger says transported on the back of a truck is the only way.

Have a quick nosey through the yellow pages too.. im sure a man and a van will be easy to come by ! :-)

If your car has a tow bar, (or you could borrow a car that has) you could hire one of them Car Transporters, they are easy to tow and getting the vehicle on and off them is really easy.
