Requirements for travelling in Europe

I'm trying to find out if there is a need to carry a translation of my driving licence when in France, Monaco, Italy or Greece. I have a new style photo licence. I think Italy used to require a translation, but I can't find anything specific about this topic. Can anyone help?

I think you'll find that if you speak loudly and clearly, then that will suffice, if still not understood, try more volume;).
But seriously I've been stopped in monaco, portugal, and spain, stopped and fined in france:eek:. never needed translated licence.
Note: these events happened well before I started working for the R.A.C. have grown up alot since those days.

It puzzles me why the original V5 certificate must be carried when taking your car abroad. I am always concerned about loss or theft. You cannot keep it on your person all of the time; such as when going in the pool.
Do all the employed UK drivers of commercial vehicles carry the V5 when they go abroad with the vehicles?
Does the same rule apply for foreign vehicles coming into the UK?
