Child Seats and the new legislation

Here's a good one to test you all.

With the change in the legislation, last month, regarding Children and the appropriate restraints, I have a bit of a problem.

I drive a Mitsubishi Pajero, Mk1. The rear bench seat and the two fold down seats only have lap belts fitted. There are no mounting points for a 3-point system.

All child seats I have seen are designed for 3-point harnesses.

Does anyone know where the law stands for lap belts?

    lap belts are ok

I think the law says that you must fit the car seat when it is possible to do so so in this case you might not be able to fit the seat. There's a piece on RAC Know How about it, might help you there.

Now here's an even bigger conundrum. Why is it that from car seats to buggies, every time I have a new piece of baby equipment it takes me about an hour to figure out how to put it up or down. Surely they know that if I've got a baby in my arms they should make it simple. I know they have to be extra vigilant with safety and I wouldn't want it any other way but it's really embarassing to have to stand there in the supermarket car park struggling with buggies, car seats and the like
