Having had to deal with our fair share of bereavement recently I've been wondering about what I'd like to be done in my name when the time comes

I really like bees - it's a bit of a joke in my family and with people I know - and walking along a footpath recently I saw some beehives with a sign saying they're "community beehives". I don't really know what that means but sounds a bit like a co-operative effort

A bit like how people have benches or trees planted for them, I quite like the idea of funding a beehive... not sure exactly how it could be implemented though as it requires ongoing work not just an upfront cost. If a charity were provided with the funding for the hives would they take on the responsibility - especially if it was a charity whose goals were aligned...like a nature-based or conservation charity?

What a great idea @Drivingforfun - I saw this site in my area when looking into what you were thinking - I would suspect you'd be able to donate a chunk of cash and sponsor a hive, or multiple hives, for say 10 years. For example this one seems to be about £100 per year to sponsor a hive. You could donate £1K and sponsor it for 10 years.

Yes there are many Bee charities around the country, try an Internet search for one in your area.
With some you can just sponsor, others may help you to learn how to manage a hive.

I think is a lovely idea, your contribution will be helping to grow flowers and food, keeping things in balance. Did you check the link Nick share?

A bit of a ramble.
How many times have you seen a park bench or something of that ilk, maybe even a big statue with a name on it?
Nobody knows who the bench or statue was dedicated to anymore unless they look it up.
The Mexicans have a much better idea with the annual Di De Los Muertos celebration, AKA the day of the dead.
The idea being that if someone says you name, even though they never met you, your legacy is assured.
Far from being morbid it's one hell of a party, and I've been to a few.
So how about putting the money into a trust fund to earn some interest and each year have that interest spent on pulling out your picture, buying a round at the local pub for everyone, and everyone raise a glass to your photo and say your name.

@NMNeil might aound silly but I learned a lot about el "Día de Muertos" by watching Coco (the Disney film). I found the tradition lovely and endearing, and as you mention, far from being sad, it's quite a celebration!

On the down side, when my sister-in-law died we had a tree planted in her name. (A 10yr old oak.) It was thriving, and around 5yrs later, (3yrs ago), we noticed it gone. Contacted the landowner, and he told us it was cut down and dug up by his local council, because he had not the correct permissions to plant it.
