DashCam Installation

    Hi everyone,
I'm planning to install a front and rear dash cam on my car and wanted to check with the community before going ahead.
My car is currently covered under an RAC warranty plan, so I want to make sure I'm not inadvertently affecting my cover. Specifically, I'd love to know:

    • Are there any obligations or conditions I need to be aware of when fitting a dash cam?
    • Could a professionally or self-fitted dash cam void my warranty in any way?
    • Are there any particular installation methods (hardwired vs. plug-in) that are safer from a warranty perspective?
Any advice or experience from those who have been in a similar situation would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance 🙂

All that I have seen have a USB and/or a cigarette lighter plug, so there should be no problem if you use one of the plug-in types. However a permanently wired one could cause problems with a Canbus system if wired improperly. So I would recommend a plug-in.

@Rolebama. My dashcam is "permanently" wired by connecting it to an available point on the fuse board.

TBH, I would expect insurance companies to offer discounts to users on the grounds that they can make decisions about fault much easier.

I think I was told it was around 5% discount for having one. That was quite a few years ago though, so now they are so common, probably nothing.
Do you remember the Goodyear Grand Prix tyre advert? Put 4 on your car and get discounts on insurance. Looked into it at the time, and the difference in tyre prices from my usual Continentals was around £60, and I would save £20 on insurance. On top of that, I was told I would have to buy one for the spare as well.
