About To Try My Defender TD5 Project On A Snowdonia Road Trip

    Hi team,
I’m just about wrapping up my self-done rebuild on my Land Rover Defender TD5, now running a used low-mileage Land Rover 2.5L 15P diesel engine I recently sourced. It’s been a hands-on project from start to (almost) finish, and I’m proud of how it’s coming together.
The plan? A proper shakedown road trip through Snowdonia’s rugged terrain and dramatic landscapes the perfect place to see what this TD5 setup can really do. Between the steep climbs, winding passes, and unpredictable weather, it’ll be a solid real-world test for the engine and all the work that’s gone into the build.
So far, everything feels strong and responsive, and I’m excited to put some miles on it once final checks are complete.
I’ll be sharing photos, full details of the build, and updates from the trip as soon as everything is finalized. Looking forward to showing the results and hearing your thoughts.

I have driven just about all my cars around Snowdonia, and took a Mk 2 Land Rover onto Snowdon itself as well as part of the Alps. You don't need a Defender for that. However with all the potholes around nowadays, I am contemplating a decent 4 x 4 for my next car.

@bogdan1 With a newly rebuilt engine is it wise to put it under so much stress on it's first outing?
