I helped out my nephew by trading in his banger and paying £17k for a decent Volvo as he has a young family.

I retained registered keeper and owner but he keeps it at his family home and uses it daily under his own insurance. He pays me back £350 a month.

Renew insurance is approx £150 higher than if he was the registered keeper and owner.

I could change RK and give him ownership to make it cheaper for him to insure but
I'm not keen as his marriage is on the rocks and this would be seen as his marital asset.
Any advice?

This is just my personal opinion but I think you've helped him out enough already.

Being the RK is not proof of ownership. You don't say how long ago this started, but @ £350 a month, it's a four-year deal.

There would have been some paperwork when the car was bought, make sure you hold that, and keep some sort of record of monthly payments, that should see you through if things get messy.

He needs to look around for a better insurance deal at renewal time, of course he must declare you as the RK otherwise insurance will be invalid.
