What was the first car you regretted selling.

The first would , for me, have to be my Mk1 Lotus Cortina. Not because I loved it so much, let’s face it, it was pretty basic but it’s handling made up for all of its flaws, but more because if I had retained it to this day in good condition it would be worth a minimum of 50k plus and wouldn’t attract any RFL, MOT or emission taxes. What!!

I once bought a 2003 supercharged BMW Mini Cooper S for £2000 to tide me over after my R50 Cooper died. About 1 month later I became eligible for Motability so took the reliable option and couldn't justify keeping the R53 so sold it for £1300. Now they seem to be going for £3500-5000 or so
Compared to most not a big deal plus would have cost lots to maintain in the meantime
If you'd kept the Lotus Cortina I imagine you'd have spent £50k (in today's money) on keeping it during those years! 👍 -
@Drivingforfun Good point, well made, but if we think logically about everything then we can miss out on how much enjoyment we may have gained from repairing, maintaining and owning the vehicle! Surely it’s the illogical attachment that we form with a chunk of metal that has created the classic car following that exits today all over the world? 😉

@NMNeil Nice, Jaguar had always been a proper drivers car that put a smile on the faces of those who drove them followed, as you say, by a frown of consternation every time you pulled onto the pump to fill it up.
