How Do You 'Date' Events
-
I often now talk about things that happened years ago. To get a perspective on when exactly, I think about where was I working, or what car did I have at the time. For some reason I remember these things quite clearly, but when it comes to actual events, I haven't a clue. Do you guys have great memories or do you use aide memoirs as well?

It's distance rather than time but I always use yards when I'm estimating distances, because I can imagine it as a golf hole - e.g. "that bridge looks like a par 3, I could get it with 7 iron, 150 yards" 😆

I have always been very bad it relating events to a time, when she was alive I relied on my wife, she had a very good memory for time, events, and who. She was a nurse, first in the NHS then later in the Care/Nursing home sector, she could remember patients details, on the face of it, all of them.
So now putting a date on anything is hard work.
When I was in industry I had trouble with remembering names, I read this book about improving memory. The central idea was to create lists of funny things and associate names with items on the list. Mr Brown - associated with cow - as in brown cow. (his face was sort of cow like) but this method proved to have it's failings.
Mr Davidson - became son of David - picture David with sling throwing stones at Goliath, so I great him with, hello Mr Slinger! -
Since I was little, I’ve remembered events through music, I often link memories to songs. Or is it the other way around: I remember the songs because of the events?
I make playlists of songs that were popular during happy times, to trigger the happy feelings. Does anyone do something similar?
I’m quite good at remembering things, but I’m often surprised when I realise how many years have passed.Lily

My brain works in that some songs instantly bring back memories, some very vivid. My favourite is Stuck In The Middle With You which was played at my brother's wedding reception. The day I met my wife.
My second favourite is Hang On Sloopy which was played over the PA system when I was awarded my prize for winning a motorcycle championship.
