    Hi everyone! 😊

Do you remember the day you took your theory test? A bit nervous, probably also very excited at the idea of being on the road soon. And then, the good news! You had passed your theory test!

But be honest: would you pass your theory test today?

I’ve pulled together a few questions from the RAC Driving Theory Test Kit. Drop your answers in the comments (just the letter/option is fine), and I’ll reply with your score!

If you’d like to practise in the meantime, you can download the kit here.

    1) What can cause excessive or uneven tyre wear?

    [A] A faulty gearbox
    [B] A faulty braking system
    [C] A faulty electrical system
    [D] A faulty exhaust system

    2) You're waiting to emerge at a junction. Your view is restricted by parked vehicles. What can help you to see traffic on the road you are joining?

[A] Looking for traffic behind you
[B] Reflections of traffic in windows
[C] Making eye contact with other road users
[D] Checking for traffic in your interior mirror

    3) You're driving towards a level crossing. What would be the first warning of an approaching train?

    [A] Both half-barriers are down
    [B] A steady amber light
    [C] One half-barrier is down
    [D] Twin flashing red lights

    4) You're travelling on a narrow section of road. What should you do if a horse rider ahead is riding in the centre of the lane?

[A] Sound your horn to alert them to your presence
[B] Stay behind them and allow them to ride in this position
[C] Move across to the right and try to ease past them
[D] Get up close behind to encourage them to move aside

    5) Traffic officers operate on motorways and some primary routes in England amd Wales. What are they authorised to do?

[A] Stop and arrest drivers who break the law
[B] Repair broken-down vehicles on the motorway
    [C] Issue fixed penalty notices
[D] Stop and direct anyone on motorway

    6) You’re driving in fog. When should you use rear fog lights?

[A] When visibility is less than 200 metres (656 feet)
[B] When visibility is less than 100 metres (328 feet)
[C] When visibility is less than 50 metres (164 feet)
[D] When it starts raining heavily

    7) What should you do if your vehicle starts to aquaplane?

[A] Brake firmly to slow down quickly
[B] Steer sharply to regain control
[C] Ease off the accelerator and keep steering straight
    [D] Accelerate to increase grip

    8) You’re approaching a zebra crossing. A pedestrian is waiting to cross. What should you do?

[A] Slow down and stop if they step onto the crossing
[B] Stop and give way if they’re waiting at the crossing
[C] Continue unless the pedestrian steps onto the road
[D] Flash your headlights to signal them to cross

    9) You’re driving on a motorway and you miss your exit. What should you do?

[A] Stop and reverse back to the exit
[B] Use the hard shoulder to return to the exit
[C] Continue to the next junction and turn around safely
[D] Make a U-turn through the central reservation

    10) What does a flashing amber traffic light mean?

[A] Stop and wait behind the line
[B] Stop, then proceed if the way is clear
[C] Give way to pedestrians on the crossing, then proceed if clear
    [D] Proceed without stopping

    Post your answers like this: 1B, 2C, 3B, 4C, 5C.

Good luck and can't wait to see your answers!

With regard to Q1, I remember Borg-Warner 3 speed auto boxes. One of their quirks was losing and gaining drive if the fluid level was too low. When things like Zephyrs, Zodiacs and some Rovers had too low a level with power coming and going, under full throttle they could cause flat spots. (The customers would, as often as not, be boy racers complaining of vibration.) 9 times out of 10. quoting prices for tyres and gearbox repairs would send another to the Great Scrapyard in the Sky.

Like olduser I passed my Test before the Govt started yet another of their 'get-rich-quick' schemes.

@olduser well, you maybe pre-date the test but you got 10/10 right. Well done!!! 🥇

Did you find the questions a tad difficult or way too easy? I need to find really tricky ones, I'd like to start a series of content to help the youngters pass their exams.

@Rolebama a shame people wouldn't invest in repariring them and sent them to car heaven instead.

But wait a sec... are we talking repairs that cost more than a new car, or…?! 🤔

@Lily No, not more than a new car, just more than 'that' car was worth.

@Lily In driving terms, the answers are just common sense, and common sense is another way of describing experience.

@olduser you are 100% right. 😊 Do you remember what did you find most challenging when learning to drive?

That is difficult Lily, if you drive then they all should be easy, because you have a driving brain, if that makes sense?
I don't think I knew the answers, I just mentally drove up to them.

Pedestrian's, and Cyclist's appear to motorists to do stupid things but mostly they don't think driving, so can't understand, never mind see the imminent danger. After all, that's why we must never risk driving on autopilot.

I found it interesting when walking to think driving I started looking ahead selecting a way through judging stopping distance and being able to move along without interfering with other pedestrians. (you could get put in jail for interfering with other pedestrians! 😀)

Back to the questions, they will all be difficult to none drivers, unless they can relate them to walking or cycling.
