Ford fiesta dilemma
-
So I have a 2010 Ford fiesta, current issue is that it’s not turning on. So I thought as it’s been cold it was the battery, I jump started it no luck. Luckily I live above a mechanics and a good one. They checked the battery and jump started it, no luck. They then got it up on the ramp to check starting motor, all good. Then they put a diagnostic tool on and said it was a connection issue. They checked both keys, both work to unlock the car, all lights, fans ect work. My immobiliser red flashing light was flashing every time I tried to turn the car on. I think the issue is with that and the keys. They thought the keys weren’t programmed to my car. However when he tried to reprogram the keys it wouldn’t let him. This whole issue came about in 2 days, on the Thursday it took about 5 mins of me turning the key for it to start and then the Friday it didn’t start at all. Now my issue is. Do I get someone to tow it to Ford and then let them fix it which is looking very expensive the cars only worth 1k or do I try see if a car locksmith can do it. I have reached out to a car locksmith and will continue to and hope that it will be a simple fix. But the mechanic was perplexed. I also thought about getting RAC to have a look. I’ve searched online and this is a common issue but they all have different fixes such as fuses, wires, battery. Another thing this battery is a year old from the same mechanic I went too and had a full 12v. Any help please??

How about the battery in the key?
Otherwise a diagnostic.Last edited by olduser; 28-01-26 at 14:36.

Common causes are bad ground/earth connections from the door or tailgate switches or a bad battery in the key fob, but without a scanner we would only be guessing.

It enables you to reset the security system or program new keys without your local Ford dealer emptying you bank account. -
@olduser I opened both keys and there is no battery to change?

Hi @Oliviamillie, welcome to the Forum. 🙂
Hope you had a good weekend. I think talking to a car locksmith is a good next step, since they can test the key transponder signal or diagnose immobiliser PATS faults.
If that fails, one of our mechanics can spot simple fuse, relay, earth or wiring faults.
It's been a while since you posted, any luck? 🤔Lily
