RAC tyre cover

    Hello all,

im hoping for some clear guidance in tyre cover which I’ve added to my rac cover.

i understand it covers up to 5 tyres punctured, malicious or accidental damage away from home.

The information is very vague. I’m away from atm and hit a curb which has caused a tear in the front offside tyre, it appears driveable and not losing air but I’m concerned this is now damaged s as nd potentially covered even if still driveable. Any thoughts or advice on whether rac will consider this under my tyre cover? . Thanks

Hi @myshell30, welcome the RAC Forum. 😊

Thanks for your question, I took a look at our website and this is the info available:

    "

    How it works

    • You’re covered for up to £150 a tyre for 5 tyres
    • If we can, we’ll temporarily repair the tyre so you can drive to one of our tyre network garages for a replacement
    • If it can’t be repaired, we’ll get your vehicle to one of our tyre network garages and cover the cost of a replacement tyre, a replacement valve and wheel balancing
    • We’ll also dispose of the old tyre for you

    What’s not covered?

    • Wear & tear, misuse or tyres below the legal tread level
    • Damage caused by incorrect maintenance of your vehicle. This could be damage caused by uneven wear on tyres because of poor tyre pressure, misaligned wheels, defective steering or suspension
    • Any claim where the event took place before or during the first 7 days of your Tyre Replace cover
    • Tyres on a motorhome, kit car, motorcycle, quad bike, trike, caravan or trailer"
How long ago did you add the tyre cover to your policy?

In these days of cars with no spare tyres, it may be worth considering a tyre cover.

It's worth noting that a standard RAC or AA cover would treat the damage described by the OP as "accidental" and therefore not covered by the policy
