An RAC mechanic damaged my car, now the RAC doesnt want to compensate me for it.

Has anyone had to have their vehicle repaired after an RAC mechanic has damaged it? I have attempted to claim back the cost of the additional repair as the RAC mechanic incorrectly installed a part which then damaged another part in the engine. The second mechanic was RAC approved and said the damage was caused by the incorrectly fitted part. The RAC complaints department has said it wont refund me to cost of the remedial works. Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi @Nula, I’m really sorry to hear that you’re unhappy with the response from our complaints team. I can imagine how frustrating that must feel.
Have you had a chance to look at our Alternative Dispute Resolution page? It includes guidance on what to do if you’re not satisfied with the outcome you’ve received.Lily

@Nula Could you be more specific about the part that was replaced and how it damaged another part?

Hi Neil. The Crank Pulley and seal were installed incorrectly, this caused an oil leak and a massive gash in the crank pulley seal. This was in writing from the RAC approved garage that took on the corrective fix.

@Nula Thanks for the info.
Not sure you can fit a crank pulley incorrectly, but if you leave out the retaining bolt or don't torque it up it can cause extensive damage if the pulley comes loose or falls off.
No excuse for that.
