I have had run-ins with Highways Agency in the past about unannounced roadworks re their website, but is it really so difficult to erect clear signage for diversions, or to announce their intentions to close motorways and major A roads? Or does it come under Rocket Science or National Security?
More 'Diverted Traffic' Silliness
-
I have been going up and down the A1(M) more than usual these past months due to taking my daughter to and from various Hospitals, as well as our usual social visits. Last Friday night we were all sent off at J8 Southbound because of roadworks. After the first 2 or 3 roundabouts, we were sent off into the wilds, around the East side of Stevenage, where the Diverted Traffic signs disappeared. I have a reasonable sense of direction, so went South for a while. After a few miles I drove through a large village/small town, who seemed to want to remain anonymous. I came to a roundabout, and it seemed reasonable to turn right, and a mile or so later, came to another roundabout, where I decided to go straight across. Again, after another mile or so there was another roundabout which had a Diverted Traffic sign, and just a few hundred yards later, came to the rouindabout which gave access to the A1(M), so made my way home.
