I think, you will get better information by asking local people where they take their cars for service and repairs.
You could, take your car to garages and ask for an estimate to repair it.
Then avoid the lowest and highest price picking from the remainder.
Your post suggests there is a lot of work needed, this suggests it maybe better to replace the car, repairs these days are very expensive.
Good luck. -
Sorry you're stuck! Is the car currently at a garage or are you just starting to look for one? If it's already in for repairs and taking too long, definitely check if they’re an RAC-approved garage - you usually have a bit more leverage with them if things aren't going smoothly.

Personally, I never recommend any garage.
I worked at Checker auto parts, a US version of Halfords, and it was company policy that we never ever recommend a garage to customers, and the reason is simple, if you recommend a garage and they do a lousy job in the mind of the customer because you recommended them the lousy job they did was partly your fault.
It was much the same in the police department. If an arrestee asked that we recommend an attorney we would simply give them a phone book and tell them "Take your pick" -
If your car needs engine repairs, bodywork and new tyres, you have a few good options. In Coventry, Fastlane Tyres is a reliable choice for tyres and related services.
If you are open to nearby locations, ATI Tyres Chesterfield is an excellent option for quality tyres and professional service. You can also consider G2 Tyres Birmingham, Tyreworks & Auto Care Gloucester, Buy More Tyres Manchester, RB Tyres Milton Keynes, and Trade Tyres Services Sutton Coldfield.
All of these garages are well known for dependable service and good customer support. -
This is an older post, but the general advice still makes sense. Using a well-established local tyre and auto care centre usually gives better results than just chasing the cheapest option. I’ve had good experiences with independents that take time to advise properly and do the job right, which makes a big difference in the long run.
Worth checking reviews and recommendations locally before deciding. -
I have had my car serviced on a contract with the main dealer I bought it from. I am aware that an independent provider would be cheaper, but I know the dealer will have the correct equipment and can easily source parts.
Sadly, not all dealers are the same, and I think I am fortunate to have a good one locally.
