Engine replacement

So I bought a car from a full dealership last November. It had had all the usual checks etc (supposedly). 22 days after collecting it, it started coming up with ad blue warnings. I called the dealer and they said get it to my nearest Citroen (I bought it more than 150 miles from home). It was diagnosed with needs a new cat and ad blue valves. Couldn’t get it done there as the warranty company didn’t work with that garage so the dealership agreed to take it back and fix it. Someone drove up in a similar car and we swapped. They kept it for 5 weeks, only put on a reconditioned cat and left it at that. 4 days after having it back, ad blue warnings again. This time they said find a warranty approved garage - that’s still 30 miles away. They had it for a week but gave me their loan car. Everything was fine for about 6 weeks, then I was taking my kids for a day out when suddenly, ad blue again - warning there was only 50 miles left. We were only 15 mins from the garage so we ended up driving there and dropping my car off. Sat there for hours waiting for a lift home a £200 lost for the day out and no car at all. They kept it for another 4/5 days. Collected it and a few short hours later, when I was picking my kids up from school, the car doesn’t start. The battery had a dead cell, rac took hours. £254 later for a new battery.
car had been stinking when I picked it up but I was told it just needed to be worn in. Fume smell did not go away after a week so back to the garage it went, another week without my car. Fast forward 3 months, I’ve got in my car in the morning, headed a 100 yards down the road and bam, it’s stalled - it’s an auto so not something I had expected. This was 9:30am. Call the rac, time windows keeps getting pushed further and further back until finally, the guy arrives at 8:05pm. Does his diagnostic and says he thinks the wet belt has snapped and I should call my garage in the morning and they will arrange to tow. Get hold of the garage they say bring it down. It arrived there on the Sunday (3days after breakdown) - the was 11th August. They confirm the belt snapped, caused too much damage and would need an engine replacement. The engine was ordered 13 days ago after much messing around between original dealer and warranty company. I’ve been without a car, I’ve ended up paying my usual finance payment plus then a further £500 to hire a car for 10 days as of course it was the holidays. Anyone know where I stand on this? Sorry for the long post but hell, it’s certainly been a time:

I'd definitely agree with @olduser 's recommendation of the Citizen's Advice Bureau. Also check out what the Consumer Rights Act says about this. I do't see anywhere in your post @HeatherP that says how old your car is - was it new, used? Are you in communication with anyone at the dealership you purchased from? If not, I would suggest opening up that line sooner rather than later, letting them know the situation. It sounds as though you have a good timeilne of events - make sure you get this in a format that sets it all out, including any evidence you have (such as garage visits, call outs, conversations etc).

I bought a car pre-covid and had nothing but trouble with it - documented it all, reached out to the team at the dealership = I emailed the franchise manager, the sales director, and Vauxhall UK - all CC'd in. I told them I wasn't accepting the car, was giving them it back and I expected either my money returned or a replacement. Took me about 6 months to get a resolution but in the end they took the car back and swapped it for another one. Just make sure you understand your rights, which are different depending on it's status as either new or used.

Good luck and keep us updated.
    Thanks,
    Nick

@Nick thanks, I will get in touch with cab. It’s a 19 plate, was 5.5 years old when purchased.
