I bought a car from someone it only had 1 key, the key was worn and it wouldn’t start the car! It started fine on the test drive and on the way home. We had to get someone out to replace the key and barrel. Where do we stand here? Do I ask the seller to help with the cost? It cost £280 to replace

Hi I need some advice as what to do.

If you bought it privately, there is no obligation on the seller. If bought from a dealer you do have recourse; through Small Claim Court if necessary.

The seller will make a valid point that you were aware of the dodgy key when you bought the car.
This was something that you should have taken into account when negotiating the price.
