last week I purchased a 2nd hand campervan from a private seller and the van looked all ok even carried a HPI check, anyway.
The seller listed what was on the van and stated the rear camera and Speedo don’t work so I said ok and negotiated a reduced price so we agreed.
Yesterday I took the van to a company that deals with these vans for a electric and gas inspection because we wanted additional items added, well we had a shock.
Today the company basically condemned the vans electric system and gas. The electrics are running on under rated cable sizes and the dealer showed us the cables that are overheating heating under load and their is a massive gas leak so they stopped the test due to what they found.
They stated to replace the 24v side of things they need to remove all the side and roof panels and they will not go back the same so they quoted a new refit and to put it all back correctly will cost in excess of £20k plus.
I only paid £16k for the van and it’s not worth spending 20k on where it’s not worth this money.
Ive messaged the seller stating my findings and said it’s been sold unfit for purpose and dangerous to use.
The money was paid via bank transfer.
So where do I stand?
Waiting on the seller to respond so sticking this on here for feedback.
