Car repairs at an Approved RAC garage.

Hi all (newbie to this forum I go by Kuga1)

Right where to start I bought a ford kuga from a ford dealer in Sheffield ( I live in wales but could not find a kuga that I wanted in wales ) so when further afield ( Sorry if this post is long but need to explain) . had the car a yr bought in Feb 2024
202took out an RAC WARRANTY Platinum.
just over a trouble free yr of driving the car which it did run very nice no problems , Then about april 2025the car brokedown ( engine service now ) came up on the dashboard )and cut out .
called out the RAC break down who came and said to me it's your Cam sensor i do not have one but i can get you home ( car is a ford kuga 18 plate St-Line x 2ltr AWD Auto ) so he told me that because its an auto he could only do a low speed with a tow bar , so we got home and the next day went to my local ford dealers and got the new
cam sensor put that on but still the same not starting. So had to call out RAC again they came and the guy put it on the Diagnostics machine and said its a timing issue .and said it needs to go to garage which was an Approved RAC garage was told alot of things wrong ge but had to pay £100 for another diagnostic . they said that it needs a new high pressure fuel pump which they did, fuel filter & oil and filter but still not starting so cam belt was to blame . by this time they had spoken to RAC WARRANTY and were told that because I've missed a service they would not pay for the job . so down to me ( short story) I paid £4,500 top end rebuild .Rockers cam shafts in and outer , followers cambelt kit .in garage for nearly six weeks, picked the car up on 20th June 2025 . went back in a week later oil leak . had back two day later all seemed fine . forward to 1st Aug 2025 and again broken down
called RAC out but could not get to me so five hrs later picked up by another firm an trailerd back to house . had a look and yes cambelt gone again but this time the belt split down the middle and then that part snaped and wrapped around the cam . So asking for advice on where I stand should garage do the work only done a 1,000 miles .sorry for long post .
    cheers chris.

Welcome to the RAC Forum @kuga1! And thank you for your post.

Have you spoken to the garage about it? Mentioning what you've mentioned here, maybe in written? I think it could be a good first step.

It looks as though the new cambelt was faulty so probably means the engine is damaged internally. There will be a warranty on the timing belt just what that covers will be the question but if the belt was good to have failed so soon with a rebuilt cylinder head suggests there could be faulty workmanship involved.

If the garage do's not offer to repair the damage at no cost I would find your local Trading Standards office or Citizens Advice.

    Good Luck.
