Hi guys

anyone have any clues as to what this could be.
There is a knocking/rattle sound coming from the engine. It is louder with the bonnet up but can be heard in the cab while driving too. It is very noticeable when idle. I always say it sounds like a helicopter!

I did have it serviced in May and the guy says he thinks it sounds like air rather than something knocking.

A Sytner! garage has the car at the moment and I have had limited feedback from them but they did say they found a cracked EVAP/EVAC? pipe. Also ‘pipes’ are not covered under my extended warranty and it is going to cost me £400 to fix.

Does this sound right to you guys? What pipe costs £400?! Seems very convenient.

If people would only read the small print (Terms and Conditions) before purchasing extended warranties they just wouldn't buy them.

But at todays labour rates £400 do's not sound too bad.

Those cars are prone to failed timing chain tensioners which could explain the ticking noise.
An EVAP leak will sound like an air leak, but EVAP systems do not tick.
Does it sound like this, and if it does get another garage to look at it and check your warranty carefully to see if it's covered.

Thanks. We found out where the noise was coming from. One of the tube connectors of the Evap pipe has a crack in it, nothing wrong with the tubes and they are saying that the connector cannot be replaced without changing the whole part. Warranty still won’t cover it. I have it taped up at the moment!
