Advice please? UK Roads

Hello I’m a fairly new driver
Anyway, so a couple of days ago I was approaching a cross roads with a yellow box and a cross roads to turn right. Instead of waiting behind the pedestrian crossing line I edged forward to the middle of it (yes I know I shouldn’t of) as I thought that I’d have enough time to go with the two cars in-front already in the box, but the cars went on amber after the cars infront cleared the way (I think the car must of gone when there’s was nearly on red) and I didn’t proceed as it would have been too late for me to go so I reversed a teeny tiny bit so I wasn’t blocking any traffic from my right. I look to my right… a police van. I just stayed and didn’t make eye contact and I felt as if he was looking at me but I don’t know if I’m being paranoid. After doing some research, apparently I can receive points for stopping over the pedestrian crossing? How likely is this? They didn’t pull me over but apparently they can still issue you points?
    Really stressing!

    I think you're fine, don't worry

Most (I happily say not all) coppers are human, he probably saw you corrected your mistake. I reckon if you asserted yourself forwards and tried to get through he would've likely done a bit more 👍

If I've understood the OP, he moved into the yellow box to queue to turn right. Nothing wrong with that.
He then decided not to turn right, because the lights turned red. This was wrong, as the lights no longer applied to him (he had already crossed the stop line).
The pedestrian zone at a light-controlled junction is not a "pedestrian crossing", and AFAIK stopping there is not a specific offence. Reversing into it, however, might be seen as careless driving.

No-one here can tell whether the police will take action. What the police cannot do is "issue points". They can only offer a fixed penalty (including points), or a course, as an alternative to court action.
