My car was in the garage far too long

My car was in the garage for an engine repair and it took the garage 10 months to repair it. Ive spent countless amounts of money on other peoples insurance, fuel for others, public transport etc. and i was made to pay full price is there anything i can do?

Did they repair it?
Did you have a written contract that the repairs had to be completed within a certain time?
What was the reason they gave for the delay?
Too many variables to give an answer. -
A 10-month car repair is an unreasonable delay under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in the UK, making you eligible for action. First, send the garage a formal complaint letter detailing the excessive delay and all your incurred expenses (insurance, fuel, public transport), demanding a partial refund for the repair and compensation for your losses. If unresolved, escalate to The Motor Ombudsman. Should that fail, you can pursue a claim in Small Claims Court for breach of contract and consequential losses, ensuring you have meticulous documentation of all expenses and communications.

The Act actually says "What is a reasonable time is a question of fact.", which means that it is ultimately for a court to decide.
And a court would hear the garage's explanation listing all the reasons for the delay, which we have not. -
@Beelzebub There is a big problem with supply chains and parts on backorder, so not much chance of the consumer rights act applying if the parts are simply not available.

That’s a seriously long time to be without a car — especially when you’ve had to pay out of pocket for everything else on top. Even if parts were delayed, the garage should’ve kept you properly updated or offered alternatives along the way.
Hopefully you get some movement on it. Ten months is beyond what most would consider reasonable.
