I was looking at the toothpaste isle, just for one brand…

4 different “whitening” formulas

Charcoal toothpaste

Toothpaste for bad breath

Toothpaste for sensitive teeth

Toothpaste + mouthwash combined

Deep clean toothpaste

Plaque-shield toothpaste

Overnight toothpaste that you use before going to bed

I wondered how hard it’d be to make a toothpaste that does all of those things?? Maybe there’s a covenant against it. I read about with old light bulbs, where there was a gentleman’s agreement to keep sales strong, so despite it being easily doable anyone who made a light bulb that lasted more than 1,000 hours was bullied out of the industry

In the end I bought the basic toothpaste on the bottom shelf for 99p

When I buy toothpaste, I just want a cleaner. It used to be a thing about plaque buildup, which of course didn't happen with clean teeth.
Who remembers the Colgate soldiers guarding their teeth from the bacteria?

Or the toothpaste add jingle, "You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent"

My brother in law, was a salesman all his working life, at one point he worked for a company making cleaning agents including toiletries.

He told me, "One year there was a big full day meeting arranged, senior management, and all the sales force.
