Rusty parts on newly bought 2022 Dacia Duster (incl. Exhaust)

    Hi

(Sorry to be back so soon with another question on the forum)

I've just bought a 2022 Duster with 18k miles, from a Renault/Dacia dealership. For various reasons, I stupidly didn't have a good look underneath until I got home. Now that I have, I can see that the exhaust is quite rusty. There's also some rust on one of the parts where the back wheel connect (sorry, don't know the name).

Now, I do have a tendency to over think and over worry, but don't know if that's the case here or not. Would anyone mind taking a look at the photos and letting me know whether it looks ok or whether I should be going back to the dealer to say I'm not happy...?

    Many thanks

I would say that is what I would expect for a car of that age.
    Nothing to be alarmed about.

Some manufacturers do fit exhaust systems that resist rusting better than naked steel but they cost more.

Exhausts get attacked by moisture both inside and out, inside by the water created when fuel is burned, and outside by the water thrown up from the road, so steel exhaust systems have to be regarded as consumables.

When it needs replacing, you can consider having a more rust resistant system fitted but you will find the longer the life the greater the cost.

As to the other rust, unless you intend to keep the car for your lifetime, (very unlikely) before that rust becomes a problem you will have changed cars.
However, if you want to slow the rusting on these parts the simplest thing would be to use something like Waxoyl (wax in a solvent) available in aerosol cans, and spray that on.
NB this will not work on the exhaust due to the heat.
