Confused about car insurance question

A couple of years ago my husband had 2 minor accidents while he was a named driver on my policy, which I then made a claim for. I'd already made a previous claim for myself, so 3 in total. I recently changed insurers at renewal, to Co op. However, a few days later, Co op cancelled my insurance because it said my application was wrong - I'd listed 1 accident for me and 2 for my husband, but Co op said I should've put down 3 for me as it was claimed under my policy. They won't consider me as they're counting it as 5 in total.
I've tried to get a policy elsewhere, but whatever website I go to it always asks the same question for me and my named driver "have you had any accidents OR claims?" (my capitals). If I put 3 for me, that means I have to answer no to the same question for my husband, otherwise it asks me for details of the claim and then lists it as 5 claims. There is no option to list an accident without putting it also as a claim.I'm worried that my policy is invalid because I've said my husband hasn't had any accidents. Every call centre I've tried is outside UK and I can't get them to understand the problem.

I think your best option is to contact the Insurance Ombudsman at Insurance – Financial Ombudsman service

You are trying to be honest but the insurers are being their usual thick numpties that they often are. It may be that the ombudsman can clarify the situation or they may be able to give directions to the insurance industry

I had a neighbour with a similar problem, we solved it by speaking to someone in the UK.
We got around the offshore call centre problem by saying we could not understand what they were saying, could they please put us through to someone in the UK or give us a contact number, they objected at first but we said, if you don't want the business fine by us.
In this first contact don't give them enough information for them to be able to look you up on the insurance database. (I am Mr/Mrs Whatever and I am looking for car insurance, no more.)

The problem is, there is a database that insurers refer to, it will show your (and your husbands) insurance and claims history.
This will also flag up that you have been turned down for (they think) a fraudulent application.

Any insurer reading that will turn you down. (we know the problem comes from their internet application form but they don't)

If the phone chat with UK personnel doe's not clear the problem, ask them to put it in writing so you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman.
Then do as TC1474 has advised above, the ombudsman usually ask for written proof of a problem before they will look into it.

    Good luck.
