Two vehicles reversing
-
Just curious to see who is at fault here. I feel that it’s pretty much 50/50 but other driver says this cctv proves it was my fault.

Hi @Clairey206 - welcome to the RAC Community and thanks for making your first post, it's great to hear from you.
Without knowing much about the incident my initial thought is that you would be closer with the 50/50 decision. What is it that the other driver thinks make it more your fault? -
No video!
However, if both vehicles were reversing it will almost certainly be 50/50 fault.
The, 'almost' comes in because A could have started reversing, seen that B was reversing, and stopped, waiting until B had completed but B reversed into A then B would be at fault.
Reversing increases the risk level, it is the drivers responsibility to see that it safe to move, not others to get or keep out of the drivers way.
Highway Code Rule 202
Look carefully before you start reversing. You should
- use all your mirrors
- check the ‘blind spot’ behind you (the part of the road you cannot see easily in the mirrors)
- check there are no pedestrians (particularly children), cyclists, other road users or obstructions in the road behind you.
- checking all around
- looking mainly through the rear window
- being aware that the front of your vehicle will swing out as you turn.

That is very easy.
It will go 50/50 or to give it its proper title split liability.
You both have a duty of care, you both failed to exercise that duty of care, so responsibility will be shared between you. -
Yeah, I have to agree @Clairey206 - the video certainly doesn't show either driver to be more or less at fault and @TC1474 is right - there is onus on both drivers to make sure it's safe to reverse - I imagine a 50/50 split liability resolution here.
