I'm still not ready for my driving test
-
After 40 hours with my driving instructor, I still feel unprepared. I've been told that my driving is unsafe, and the instructor has refused to lend me his car for my test, which is in two weeks. In my opinion, he is not very supportive. I have zero confidence because I only receive negative feedback in every lesson, which makes me feel like I am the worst driver in the world. I'm considering canceling my test because I don't want to continue driving. I've already spent a fortune on these lessons.

And if you have lost confidence in your instructor, talk to him/her about it, if you cannot come to a satisfactory conclusion consider changing instructors.
But do remember, if you are getting it wrong your instructor has to tell you else how are you going to know? -
Out of curiosity, is the instructor from a company or are they a sole trader -- if the latter, are they well known and respected?
Just my cynical side but as you've already shown the ability and willing to pay for 40 hours of lessons, a less than genuine instructor potentially doesn't want you to go and pass the test ... if that makes sense?? -
Hello,
if you cannot come to a satisfactory conclusion consider changing instructors.
But do remember, if you are getting it wrong your instructor has to tell you else how are you going to know?

Sorry to hear you're going through this. Confidence is a huge part of learning, and it sounds like your instructor isn't giving you the support you need — which is unfair.
If you're feeling unsure, this guide on driving lessons might help — it breaks down what good instructors should provide and how to regain confidence before your test.
Remember, you're allowed to change instructors if things aren’t working. You’ve already put time and money into this — don’t give up now. You’re closer than you think.Last edited by Lily; 17-06-25 at 14:14.
