Pointless rambling

I drove into a parking space today, a split second later the person on the other side of the road (no indication) turned toward the space so I assumed they wanted it

The space right beside me was empty too so I just put my hand up as a “thanks/sorry” gesture assuming she’d just drive into the space next to me… however she just sat there staring at me for about 25 seconds

I’d have happily moved to the other space myself but she was in the way and it would have come across as sarcastic anyway

If she’d have been half a second earlier and I saw her intentions before I moved I’d have just yielded the space to her, as I always do for people…

It just seemed like she felt insulted, if it was a bloke like I'd insulted their masculinity or whatever it is

Very odd to me, has anyone ever come across anything like this before?? What did I do wrong??

Based on your description but it is speculation, you may have turned an easy double length parking space into a more challenging single length space, so she paused to consider how best to get in now.

Anyway, it was not your intention to be difficult, you did the best you could to apologise, you were blocked so could not vacate, you did your best, dismiss it as one of life's little mishap's.

I generally don't spend too much energy contemplating these things - all circumstantial - like you I generally give a space up when I can see someone appears to be waiting to get in it, however if you don't see them, and they're not indicating to pull in, then you can't read minds (I don't think you can anyway!). I've definitely had a few awkward moments but I generally just get out and get on with my day!
    Thanks,
    Nick
