It seems you see less and less Cat's eyes set into roads these days. Is anyone aware of roads in and around Glasgow or the central belt? Thanks in advance.

I'm not so sure @miz456 - I think as a concept they are still there, advancements in technology likely mean that some are now being removed and replaced with newer versions with LED strips and similar.

LEDs require a power source, so that would make them impractical.

I think cats are used less these days because the road paint has glass beads in which are in effect mini cats eyes.

A little known fact.
Cats eyes were patented by a Yorkshire man in 1934 and the patent was later updated to include a rubber strip across the lens which would clean the lens when a car ran over the cats eye.
He died a wealthy man but he went off the deep end.

A newly surfaced road near me was fitted with LED "cat's eyes". They were really good and worked well but it wasn't long before some went missing.

They were only glued to the road surface and it seems that they made pretty garden ornaments.
