I drove through a railway crossing as the barriers came down. The barriers were still up high, and only started to go down as I passed.

The sun was in my eyes and could not see the flashing red crossing lights. I could not hear the crossing alarm either.

There is a camera on the crossing. Will I expect to see a penalty notice through the post and if so what can I expect it to be?

I think the argument that you were not paying close enough attention could be made. If you were blinded to that degree, maybe you should have stopped.

Given that you obviously cleared the crossing before the barrier came down means you got away with it.

Cameras at railway crossings are different to traffic light and speed cameras, so just put it down to experience and learn from it.
