The only specific rule I can find in the Highway Code is rule 143, "traffic must travel in the direction indicated by signs," but it's not specific on whether "traffic" includes normal driving and manoeuvring. Google and Reddit don't provide a clear answer, other than "it depends on the situation". Any clarification on this?
Is it illegal to reverse-park into an on-street parking space on a one-way street?

My street in Reading has on-street parking either side of a one-way road. The cars are bumper to bumper, and the white boxes are barely wide enough for any vehicle. My car is an estate and manouvres are always easier in reverse, and reverse manouvres are encouraged in RoSPA advanced driving and the Roadcraft handbook. Forward parallel parking requires a good 10 point turn on this street and bonnet is the biggest blind spot in my car. Sometimes drivers behind expect you to reverse and leave some room, but increasingly, drivers are tailgating behind and when you reverse-park, even if you clearly indicate and put your reversing light on, they don't want to budge.

Hi @RozzyTheDozzy - welcome to the RAC Community and thanks for making your first post, it's great to hear from you.
I'm under the impression that this is not illegal no (I'm not an expert and this shouldn't be taken as fact) - I've always taken it to mean that as long as you are facing the allowed traffic flow, i.e. the direction of the one way system, then it is fine.
