There is no fuel pump in the tank it's just the sender unit for the fuel gauge and no pump in between so how on earth does the fuel get pumped up to the filter and primer bulb?

Hi @dilligaf484 , welcome to the RAC Community and thanks for making your first post, it's great to hear from you.

Unfortunately your question is definitely not in my wheelhouse so will defer to some of our more knowledgeable members who may be able to offer some advice - for me it certainly sounds like the sort of thing I'd be enlisting my local garage/mechanic to take a look at for me.

Quite simply the pump is capable of moving air, causing a vacuum in the fuel line, sucking the fuel from the tank to the pump.

As Rolebama says, unless you are talking about a vintage car, some had a hand pump to pressurise the tank or the fuel tank was higher than the carburettor.
