Will I get fined for this?

I’m quite a new driver so hope i explain properly!
roads were very very busy, it was a very busy junction
I approached the traffic lights which was also pedestrian crossing
lights were on green and there was slow moving traffic ahead , I went passed the white line at traffic lights, realised it was a massive yellow box in front, car in front of me had space to go ahead, I waited before the yellow box until there was space in front for me to go so I don’t get stuck in the box, where I’m waiting is on the pedestrian crossing
lights have now turned red!!! While I’m still waiting past the white line, before the yellow box but im on the pedestrian crossing, can’t drive forward as in front was not clear on yellow box. Bus in the lane next to me was also same position as me. But we both could not go forward as it was not safe as cars from left and right were driving across as their lights were on green while ours on red, road ahead was now clear for me to go and clear the box but I decided to wait as traffic was coming from left & right across, so was not exactly safe as those light were on green. Pedestrians had to go slightly around my car to cross the crossing!? :(

It is a scenario that occurs quite a bit around the country due to poor planning and junction layout.

If a Policeman had seen you, I very much doubt he/she would have done anything given the situation you were in, and the fact that you showed appropriate caution works in your favour.

However, you will always get the occasional jobsworth who might take the view that you should have anticipated the traffic backing up (even though you are inexperienced) and held your position before you crossed the line for the crossing.

That said, nothing came from it, nobody was really inconvenienced, and you do not usually get camera's on pedestrian crossings. Traffic lights however are a different matter, but you committed no offence in respect of the ATS, so just put it down to experience, learn from it and move on. 👍

@TC1474 thank you for responding. I definitely should have waited behind the white line until traffic cleared a bit. It was just so busy. I am worried there would be a camera somewhere that would have seen me? I checked on google maps but not sure I can see a camera around.
