Ford should be about average as far as running costs.
Cost of servicing is more to do with the garage rather than the particular car.
If you find a good one, stay with it, national groups tend to have a bad reputation.
Running costs are more to do with the drivers style, high speed heavy braking, racing from traffic light to traffic light etc will eat up fuel, tyres, and brakes.
Smooth driving, and planning ahead will tend to minimise costs, and is a lot less wearing on you, and the vehicle.
Checking oil, and water levels, along with tyre pressure (with the engine cold) at regular intervals (weekly or monthly) is worth doing.
Water should not be full when cold, (don't try when hot there may be steam) there needs to be room for expansion, if you can see the tops of the radiator core that is low.
High priced cars (as new) will have high priced spare parts, it's all part of the image.
Second hand dealers, tend to say, all their cars have had a full service before sale, what they usually mean they changed the oil, and filter, and perhaps adjusted the brakes.
Better to ignore that, and based on the service history, give it it's annual service when due following on from the service history dates.
Many garages will offer a cheaper service but this a generic service ignoring servicing advise by the manufacturer peculiar to that model, which is likely to build up trouble (and cost) for later.
What the manufacturer thinks (knows) needs attention will be listed, usually in the service record book.
Good luck.
