Car insurance

Current policy expires 01/12/24 renewed and paid with new company on 28/11/24. On 29/11/24 had an accident on the way to work, first in 20 years. I’ll be making a claim on my current policy but my question is as I’ve already renewed my policy with a different company and paid for it do I need to tell them about this new claim or wait until my next renewal date in 2026?

If you have a claim pending prior to renewal you need to advise your new insurers, but it will probably have no effect until you renew.
Fail to advise your insurers, they may refuse you cover as you will be considered to be failing to notify them which could come back to bite you up the backside later on as they may refuse to cover you, and it may technically be claimed that you made a false declaration..
Play safe and cover your backside. -
We had this situation but with house insurance, not car insurance, and decided the safest thing to do was to commit the cardinal sin of letting it auto-renew with the provider who was settling our claim, not least because we felt we owed them the loyalty but was also much simpler… as said it had no impact but who knows about next year!
