As someone who is into driving or motor vehicles, what funny things have you heard from people who don't share the interest?

I've heard plenty of amusing things, like overtaking on a single carriageway being illegal, to justifying why you should always drive in the middle lane of a motorway

One of my favourites, which I suppose isn't relevant to not being a car person (in fact I have met car people who would probably believe it), is someone mentioning the price of petrol does not affect them because they only ever put exactly £20 in at a time

In the days of carburettors, "If you pull the choke out you can hang your handbag on it".

There was this man who made his car run on water but the oil companies paid him £thousands to keep it quiet.

Slightly off topic and not do with cars, but they do help cars. My daughter used to ask why lamposts slept during the day and came out at night :)

"If motorways are so dangerous, why don't they close them?"

In the AA I attended a few breakdowns with dead engines. 40.000 miles. or thereabouts, original owner, never an oil change. They had bought video players and washing machines and never had them serviced, so why would they have their cars serviced?
