Possible Car Repair needed for motability car....

  • Daugava's Avatar
    Good day everyone.

I have question regarding possible repairs.

Recently my car had issues for moments - while driving on motorway car started to shake and vibrate especially when pressing gas pedal .
I did stop on closest P turned off and back on and everything was fine . For a few days everything was fine untill few days back same thing happened.
Not to mention that car feels powerless very offten when starting from still especially frustrating it feels when I am at lights or roundabouts as this second or two second lag make very dangerous situations.

As this is Motability car ( MG HS 24 ) firstly I contacted dealer after few days they called me back and told to contact RAC in first place so they can take a look and see if it can be fixed or car needs to be towed.

I did write to RAC enquiry form few days ago but so far no one got back to me with solution .
I dont know what to do, car is very essential on daily basis for disabled person . But I don't know if it's safe to drive or not.

I hope someone could give me some solution to this .

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi @Daugava,

    Welcome to the Community.

A few years ago, my engine experienced similar stuttering and the whole car would shake when trying to drive it, even at low speeds. It turned out to just need a spark plug replacement.

I'm not particularly mechanically minded though, and other members may have a better suggestion.

If you haven't been contacted, please do reach out again via one of the contact routes available here.

From your description, I would expect any modern car to be giving you warning lights or warning messages.
The car being lifeless, is what the computer does to minimise engine damage but allowing you to drive slowly to a garage, usually called limp mode.
The car needs some attention, take it to a dealer or the garage where you have your servicing done, the RAC will not service it for you.

Your MG dealer needs to look at it

Motability say your dealer has to sort it, the RAC only deal with it if its un-drivable

I am not sure that Mobility can say, you must go to the dealer for repairs or adjustment.

One of the (many) good things came from our membership of the EU was the change to car warranties, the demand that cars should be repaired or maintained by the dealerships was outlawed.

Olduser - in the case of a Motability car, Motability (the organisation) pay for all repairs, so I think it’s up to them

I may be wrong but my assumption is if a MB customer decided to self-fund for whatever reason then I guess they’d have the choice, but as MB is paying I think it’s their choice - they’d use the argument it’s their car (the customer just leases it) and they want it maintained by the main dealer network

    Hi Daugava,

I saw this article on our site and was reminded of your post, perhaps it could help someone experiencing a similar issue.

It's been a few weeks since you posted, how have things progressed?
