Peugeot Traveller just stopped working

Hello. I have a Peugeot Traveller that is 5 years old and has 62k miles on the clock. I've always kept on top of my MOTs and services.
The other week i was driving and it stalled and then wouldn't start. I called my breakdown cover and they stated it was the cam belt. It was then towed to a garage where they also stated it was the cam belt.
They have however just called me and said the cam/timing belt is in one piece and is fine.
They are now going to do a compression test i believe but said if nothing shows up it will have to go to Peugeot.
Has anyone got any ideas what it could be. Its making me quiet anxious
    thank you

I know little about Renault/Peugeot as we don't have either here in the US, but doing a bit of digging it seems the cam belt runs in oil and has a habit of disintegrating, so the belt may not be broken but some of the teeth could be missing and the valve timing slipped. Now the bad news, they seem to be interference engines meaning that if the timing is off the pistons will hit the valves and cause extensive/expensive damage.
Hopefully this is not the case.

If the cam belt is intact, it could still be a sensor issue or something with the fuel system worth asking the garage to check those next.
