From seatbelts to airbags, crumple zones to camera's, our cars have been getting safer and safer over the years.

But, what will help to reduce the accidents?

I remember an old episode of Top Gear where a Mercedes included a thermal imaging camera to aid nighttime driving. Though, that was 10-15 years ago and I don't recall another car ever having one.

I think someone will have an idea to stop the car from beeping at you, and in some cases even trying to prevent you, when you try to cross the white lines on a country road for example to avoid an oncoming car

Whoever thought it's safer to stay within the lines, despite an oncoming car that is wider than its own lane and so doing so would result in a head-on; I think is a maniac!! 😮

Maybe psychoanalyzing future drivers. My local area has two bends where it is common to see shrines for those who have died on the bends, as well as the occasional cars in among the trees. In themselves, they are not the problem. The real problem is the idiots who park on said bends attending the shrines.

Logically, I have no doubt that autonomous vehicles would be safer than human drivers, but emotionally, I'm not sure how I'd feel about being a passenger in one.

But for the next generation(s) who won't need to drive, it will become the norm, because they would never have driven a car themselves.
I don't know how old you are but could you imagine getting out of your chair to change TV channels?

You make a good point.

I'm 37, and I can remember making plans before mobile phones were common place. It seems so alien now, but we'd agree to meet somewhere at a particular time and place. That was it, and it just kinda worked.

Nowadays, I'd be tracking a location or texting/facetiming for an exact location.
