Recently crashed my car in Spain, it was a right off. I called my insurance company and they said they did not arrange recovery and that it was up to me to get the car taken to a garage and that they would reimburse me the cost. Luckily I was with a friend that spoke Spanish and we managed to get the car taken to a garage. Had this happened in France then as we spoke no French then the situation would have been dire. I have no idea what we would have done, possibly get a taxi to an airport and exit the country with who knows what legal complications. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Sorry to hear about your crash, thankfully it sounds like everyone was ok.

I've also taken the extract below from this RAC website about driving in Spain;

Emergency telephones linked to an SOS telephone network are installed at 2km intervals along motorways.

112 - Here's a really important bit of knowledge; you can dial 112 from anywhere in Europe and an operator will connect you to an emergency service in the country you're visiting.

Operators can answer your call in their native language, English or French.

I hope you don't need to use that information, but it can be handy to know. 🙂
