Most of us have our dream car, but what about your ideal everyday run about?

Forget the Ferrari's or Rolls Royce. It needs to be practical enough for the weekly shop, reasonably stylish, not too expensive, fuel efficient and reliable enough for you to drive it everyday.

Everyone has different needs, so I imagine we'll get completely different answers.

@Mark07 I can never quite see past a Volvo XC40! It always catches my eye on the road. Really smart looking vehicle. Nice family car. They seem well made, and fine on fuel. Re-sale value seems to hold well too

I've actually wondered for a while now whether it's actually possible to beat my car (for me, obviously)? I chose my car (Mini John Cooper Works) because it was the best choice on a scheme I'm in, but I've wondered for a while if it's actually the best choice even if I could've chosen anything

My requirements, in addition to the typical ones, are something not too massive as I drive on small roads, and also fun to drive ... I can also do without decent rear seats so don't need a saloon or SUV

It does almost 40mpg, it's fast and fun, reliable, looks good but in a classy way - not overly showy, it's also £35k - the only cars I can think of that are similar are the Toyota Yaris GR and the Honda Civic Type R - both of which are £50-60k cars now

The only thing I had on my radar was the £30k Toyota GR86 but they were limited and I didn't even get a look in

I've often fancied a Kia Sportage. Functional for my needs, I think they look nice, I could use it everyday.

Admittedly, I've never sat in one, let alone driven one, so I reserve judgement.

For me, probably an upgrade to the current old Mokka to a new mokka

Also really like Volvo's but I have it in my head they are expensive!

Oh, my brother just got a skoda octavia and it is NICE - few yrs old, maaybe a 2019?

1.6 hybrid GT-Line.

+ve: Very roomy & practical. Lots of toys. Good build quality. Keyless entry. Electric acceleration. Room for a space-saver wheel. 7-year warranty.

-ve: Satnav could be more user-friendly. Lots of beeps on start-up. Instruction manual is difficult to navigate (but might tell me how to turn off the beeps, if I could be bothered).

All my cars have suited my needs at the time. Currently my needs are for comfort, and motorway cruising with a decent mpg. (Family spread across Dorset, East Sussex, Beds and Cambs with occasional jaunts up to North Wales and Scotland for the fun of it.) I am very satisfied with what I have, although repairs can be costly, I can mentally offset them with cheap-ish road tax and insurance.
As for beeps, yes. they can be irritating as I have discovered that the car uses the same beeps for just about everything. Seat belt, ice on roads, handbrake not fully off, tyre pressure imbalance etc. All of which, so far, have also triggered lights or pictograms on the dash.

Current car is a BMW 318i Estate. Had it 6.5yrs and despite the 'niggles' it now runs really well. Finally run-in at just shy of 180,000 on the clock, and does a regular average of 40mpg. Having a widespread family accounts for most of the mileage, and I still enjoy the driving as long as it is outside the M25, which is only 2 miles away.

Virtually any hot hatch. Small, agile, quick of the line. Years ago I had a Fiesta ST, Loved it!

I have a bit of a long commute (40mi round trip) now and have some HOV lanes mixed in there so went with an EV as my daily (model 3P).

On fridays traffic is lighter so I usually take my old 996TT off it’s battery tender and give it some exercise.
