I was hoping to buy a used car from a dealership and I ran a vehicle history check on it. The check shows that there is a mileage discrepacy for the car.

The car had done 46,359 miles on the 10/11/23. Then vosa records say it's done 72,829 miles on the 26/01/24. That's 26,470 miles in 77 days.

On the 28/03/24 the milage then returns to 48,119. Full details are below:

I'm confused. The surge in mileage over those two months seems so out of the ordinary considering the previous milage history. It also doesn't show up on mot records. Could it be a mistake? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I can understand somebody asking for a mileage readout, and then mis-hearing someone else saying 'around 25,000'. Similarly, I can understand the mistake of someone taking the mileage from the wrong car.
I have observed all kinds of mileage discrepancies in a busy garage. (I have been offered an MOT certificate with the wrong Reg No, but with all other details correct for my car.)
Just a thought.

Looking at the dates, the car seems to have done a fairly consistent 7000-8000 miles per year, albeit with that one anomaly.
@Rolebama Human error is an interesting call, it's 100% the type of mistake I'd make in a hurry.

Thanks for the advice, after a lot of thought I've decided to play it safe and look for a different car with a warranted mileage.
