The other day I was rewatching Jurassic World Dominion, in the movie they show a Hyperloop-style mode of transport.

Several companies have tried/are trying to develop this tech, but then it all goes quiet.

As I understand it, you'd need to create a (near) vacuum and then use Mag Lev tech (or similar) to propel carriages to achieve phenomenal speeds (+700mph).

Is it likely to ever become a reality?

...I'm still waiting for Marty McFly's hoverboard.

They built the first one in 1844, but I believe it closed because they couldn't stop the rats eating the leather seals. 🤣
And in 1910 Robert Goddard, the father of liquid fueled rockets proposed one using magnetic levitation.
Maybe one day, the same day we get fusion power.

Not sure on commercial viability. Maybe there is some tech drip down though like a really vibration resistant bolt or something. Also original JP is the only one worth watching yes??

@NMNeil I've seen the smaller tubes used to transport post/cash deposits around a building. They make a very satisfying noise "sssccchuup"

The original Jurassic Park is 31 years old and (I think) the CGI is still pretty convincing. The original movies are almost always the best, right?

I remember reading a story when I was a schoolboy about a rail system that ran on a Mobius strip track. I think the point was that a train went missing and nobody knew how to find it.

I remember those capsule things in supermarkets, that supposedly were put into tubes that went into the roof … the rumour we believed as kids was the cashier used them to send money up to the boss when they’d collected enough 🤔 I wonder what happened to them?
