Car Mods Worth Having - Suggestions?
-
My current car has a lot of bells and whistles, some of which are just silly! So far the only thing I have added is an Android touch screen. It has Bluetooth as well as a comprehensive multimedia ability. My favourite bit though is that the sat-nav is a Micro SD slot so I get to choose what system I use. (It has Google Maps installed from my phone via Bluetooth but I can't be bothered with the kerfuffle setting it up.)

The only mod I've done on my cars, if you can really call it "modding" is changing the runflat tyres for normal ones
One thing we noticed at the car show yesterday was how lots of older cars don't have windscreen washers ... it seems obvious but we never noticed! -
I didn't have windscreen washers on my first three cars, and when they were made mandatory I remember going to the local accessory shop and buying the kit. Cost a fortune and was so unreliable, only worked in a month with a Z in it.

Were they made mandatory for pre-existing cars?
I thought that wasn't usually the case, i.e. cars that predated the requirement for seatbelts are allowed not to have them? -
Those who remember 1960s Fords will imagine the fun, manually pumping the screenwasher while the vacuum-operated wipers ground to a halt. Rain was always interesting, as the pickup was very light at the back. -
That Android touch screen sounds like a sweet upgrade! Personally, I'd recommend adding a dashcam next it's super handy for capturing those unexpected moments on the road.

I've been using a dashcam for so long now, I take it for granted. I have some great clips on an old hard drive, of different collections of vintage and veteran cars and motorcycles. If only I could lay my hands on the dratted thing. (I put it somewhere 'safe'.)

I watched an old "dash cam", in quotes as it wasn't a dash cam but a cameraman in the passenger seat, video of an illustrative drive for the IAM some time in the 1950s or 1960s. It had a running commentary, I think the advanced driving community has a name for it, like a narrated drive or something. It was such an interesting social insight as well as from a driving point of view!!
