Just a bit of fun really

We're always told, usually by the people who specialise in a particular component, that a given part of a car is crucial - the tyres, brakes or camshaft or whatever

Apart from the obvious like air con or a radio, I'm asking more mechanically, are there are actually any bits that you could do without??

The only thing that comes to my mind is the exhaust pipe?

From what I have seen and read, it would first be catalytic converters. They exchange a smelly compound for one that doesn't and cause less mpg by up to 10%. When the car in front is putting out smells it does help stop tailgating.

Because as we know fuel economy is far more important than keeping poisons out of the air we all breath.

The exhaust pipe is an integral part of the engine, not just a noise suppressor.

Modern cars have plenty of "bells and whistles" like auto wipers and electric windows, but I doubt that there are many parts in the engine and transmission that would not be missed.

Catalytic converters do not clean the exhaust. If that were the case, people would not be able to commit suicide with them.
