Would this be really cheeky...?

We have a minor house insurance claim going on and have just been told we're going to need to be out of the house for about a week, and accommodation will be provided

I believe we get some say in making sure the accommodation suits our requirements and causes minimal inconvenience

We're actually planning on going away for a week, still in the UK, and could do this on the same week that the repairs are due to be carried out ... would it be incredibly cheeky to ask for whatever money they'd pay to us to stay in a local hotel, and put that towards our accommodation?

The way I see it it's killing 2 birds with 1 stone, and it wouldn't cost the insurance company any extra; but I am aware it comes across as quite cheeky...

It's an interesting question. I wonder if they'll have stipulations about the temporary accommodation being within X miles of your address, or it's purely a price based decision.

    Either way, it's worth asking.

Be sure to let the community know of the outcome 👍

Years ago I ran with a guy whose parents were super-rich. When he was 18 he decided to move out and he found himself a house with a very strange floor layout. Because of the way it was built, a one-piece carpet could be used to cover both floors and the stairs. His parents paid a crazy price to have this huge carpet made and fitted before he moved in. He had been there about a year when his washing machine decided to flood his kitchen ruining that part of the carpet. Naturally, the insurers only wanted to pay for the kitchen area carpet being replaced. Daddy wasn't having any of that and demanded they replace the lot. After months of toing-and-froing, Daddy used his lawyers to take the claim to County Court, where he won. The payment to be paid to my friend as a cheque. He had the kitchen tiled over and put the balance into buying a new house somewhere in Wiltshire, which is why we lost touch. I often wonder if the flooding was an accident or a way to get the money to get away from the family. He was definitely a clever soul and very patient.
