Wrong information given by legitimate insurance company, leading to a court case

Hello guys, i have been stopped by police today due to my insurance not covering me to drive other cars. My personal car has broken down and i have informed my insurance policy about this and they have taken it to action and was fine with it. On my policy it says i am covered to “drive other cars under third party only” also covered to drive any other car under “emergency treatment” and also covered to drive a car under “courtesy”. For this reason i have taken our family car to see a friend who was in bad health condition as i was the only one who was able to pick up his call. Me thinking i am fully eligible to drive another car under these circumstances i have stated. Bear in mind a few days after my car has brown down i have also called my insurance company to confirm these cover notes with them. They have stated that i am covered to drive another car, they did not state any age restrictions on call or any rules. Relying on what my insurance company i have taken another car which is already insured to see the friend of mine who is in bad condition due to their health. On the way i was stopped inside a private car park of a shopping centre by police and they have stated that my insurance does NOT cover me to drive another vehicle. I am really confused because my insurance did state i am covered and i have also got proof on my insurance certificate that says i can. I am currently waiting for my letter so i can go to court and appeal against it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do and what proof i should gather in order to not revive 6 points and a fine. My age is 19 and i have had my license for 1 year and 3 months now.

the insurance company i am with is quote me happy.com

The Ts and Cs on the quote me happy.com website have an age limit of 25 for driving other cars (DOC) cover - on page 18. See https://www.quotemehappy.com/StaticD...urance_v14.pdf

So, on the face of it, the police were right. Unless you can get a letter from quote me happy.com specifically stating that you were covered in the circumstances, then your cheapest option will be to plead guilty.

BTW I'd be amazed if you could find ANY insurer offering DOC cover to a 19-year-old.

I'm normally considered a little bit authoritarian by my fellow millennial group because I tend to support the police but this just seems stupid and to be honest is the reason so many people resent the police these days

Definitely pull over someone if they come up as uninsured, but where's the discretion ... when my Dad was in the police if he came across someone on their way to visit an unwell person he would have probably got them to follow him and cleared the traffic out the way..... or at least informed them they couldn't drive but then given them a lift to the relative...

Meanwhile someone somewhere got away with something actually malicious while the PC was busy punishing someone for trying to help out

It seems the police did exercise discretion - they could have seized the car!
