First drive on your own

Just thought I'd ask if you remember yours?

I remember passing my test in my parents' car, when I got home they'd arranged for me to go on their insurance temporarily, until I got my own car, and I was told to go out for a drive on my own

I ended up getting myself lost but luckily could just put my home address in the sat nav ... maybe not an option for some oldies here if same happened to them 😂

Did anyone else do anything more interesting on their first drive?? 🤔

I took my test back in 75 in my Mum's Renault 16 complete with column gear change.

Not knowing how long I was going to be, M-my Mum who had accompanied me said that she was going to walk to the local shops but would be back at the end of my test.

I passed but no sign of Mum, so I popped it into first gear and went looking for her.

To this day nearly 50 years on I still remember how strange it felt not having someone sitting alongside me whilst I was driving.

I forget where I was going, I think it was to the shops, but the feeling is as vivid as ever.

Even though I knew where I was going, without someone to say "take the next left" I was suddenly overthinking every decision again. Thankfully that quickly passed.
